Tom Kozlowski: Hear Music See Video

Like a Pearl

(Tom Kozlowski)
She rents a flat in a tenement house been there longer than anyone else

Smiles and waves at the lady upstairs won’t complain about her troubles and cares

Long ago the story goes her man went off to fight a war

Her candle burns but he won’t return lost his life on a foreign shore

Who knows the secrets locked in her heart who knows the treasure she could impart

Shines like a pearl worth more than the world for just one glimpse of her light in the dark

She takes a trolley each morning at eight works uptown and she’s never been late

It’s always dark before she gets back but she takes the time to feed the neighborhood cat

Streaks of gray running through her hair she doesn’t hide from the years

A tender face gentle eyes beauty carved out of tears

Who knows the secrets locked in her heart who knows the treasure she could impart

Shines like a pearl worth more than the world for just one glimpse of her light in the dark

Late at night when the house is still the world quiets down ‘cause it’s had its fill

Her beating heart fills the empty space ‘cause life goes on in the darkest place

All our lives we keep searchin’ for love sometimes we’re early sometimes we’re late

How many times will she pass us by before it’s the last time she’ll wait

Who knows the secrets locked in her heart who knows the treasure she could impart

Shines like a pearl worth more than the world for just one glimpse of her light in the dark

Shines like a pearl I’d give up the world for just one glimpse of her light in the dark

Dedicated to my Grandma Kozlowski affectionately known as "Gramma Kozi"
